Memorial Day Fun

Memorial day is a holiday that our family traditionally celebrates. Almost 27 years ago we buried a little daughter, so it has become a tradition in our family to travel to Idaho to remember her and decorate her grave. This tradition started when my family was very young and so it is something that they have carried on and I am so grateful. (Of course, if none of you already know this :) , my favorite thing to do is spend time playing and enjoying my family. )

Another tradition that we have always done is to let each of the kids place a pinwheel on her grave. Well I failed this year, because I forgot to buy pinwheels early and I couldn't find any so late, so thus NO PINWHEELS this year. :(

That all said, we had a wonderful time.

Here is a recap of our weekend:

SUNDAY: This day we traditionally spend with Mike's family and celebrate his Mothers life. She past away 18 years ago. We always go together and visit her grave and then meet at Mike's Dad's for a barbeque. It was good to enjoy food and friendships together.

Sunday evening, Alan and Annie had to return to Utah so we decided to go out to the cemetary and visit our daughter Heathers grave before they left. It is such a small little grave but things sure have changed around her. When we buried her she was the only little grave in that part of the cemetary. She is definately not alone anymore.

The little girls helped us decorate. They did a great job!

MONDAY: We usually enjoy being with my parents. This year we decided to go decorate the graves and then enjoy a picnic at the park and a trip to the Zoo. The Idaho Falls Zoo is not a large Zoo but it was extremely nice for its size. We had a great time. There is a small fun park next to the Zoo and of course, we had to try out a couple of the rides there too.

The only thing missing from this being a perfect day was Alan, Annie, and the kids. They had to leave early so they were not able to enjoy the day with us. Other that that it was a especially fun Holiday. Thanks Mom and Dad for taking such GREAT care of ALL of us!!

It's always good to have you come visit. We need a girls weekend soon. Especially enjoyed the little girls coming to swim. They are the cutest... and I'm not even their grandma.
